A language that deepens collaboration

Nonviolent Communication helps people express what is going on with clarity, truly listen to one another, and respond with greater respect and understanding, especially when conversations feel difficult or tense.

In teams and organisations where the pressure is high, misunderstandings rarely come from bad intent; they tend to grow from unspoken feelings, assumptions and missed signals. Nonviolent Communication brings those dynamics into the open, so they can be addressed in a constructive way.

It is not a quick technique, but a mindset and a language that deepens collaboration and strengthens trust.

About Nonviolent Communication

Nonviolent Communication offers a simple structure for handling difficult conversations with clarity and respect. You do not have to do it perfectly; these four steps will already take you a long way.

STEP 1 - State the facts

Describe what you observe, without interpretation or judgement. What happened, in concrete terms?

STEP 2 - Name your feelings

Pause and notice what this brings up for you, and name it openly. What am I feeling here?

STEP 3 - Name your needs

Link your feelings to what matters to you. What do I need here, what is important to me?

STEP 4 - Make a request

Be clear and concrete about what you are asking of the other person, without making demands. What would help us move forward?

These four steps help reduce tension, create clarity, and keep the conversation open, even when emotions are involved.

The impact

Nonviolent Communication as a deepening or complement to other methods

Nonviolent Communication is used in individual coaching, team coaching and leadership journeys — often as a deepening or complement to other frameworks.

It is particularly valuable when:

  • conversations get stuck or tension stays below the surface

  • feedback is hard to give or receive

  • conflicts are avoided or starting to escalate

  • change brings uncertainty or strong emotions

  • teams want to communicate in a way that is both human and professional

The link with Insights Discovery

Nonviolent Communication and Insights Discovery reinforce each other.

Insights helps people understand how differences in preferences and communication style arise. Nonviolent Communication offers the words and structure to work with those differences with respect and effectiveness.

Together, they support:

  • more kindness towards yourself and others

  • better alignment in communication

  • a shared language to make tension discussable

Where Insights creates understanding, Nonviolent Communication helps turn that understanding into everyday behaviour.
